THIS WEEK'S SLOCAL SKATER

Alex, a film making long-time skater, mobbed it over to the park with us for a sessh. A chill personality with a creative spirit, he spends some of his spare time making skate vids.

More about Alex in our Mobberview below...

Q: What are your fav. skate tricks?

A: Tre Flip, Back Lip, Back Feeble

Q: How long have you been skating?

A: I have been skating for 9 years...wow I should be pro by now.

Q: What was your first skate?

A: First skate was some element deck on venture trucks with spitfire wheels, I rode that until the tail was completely grinded away. There have been way too many boards to count since then.

Q: How'd you get into skating?

A: There was a skate park about a quarter mile from my house in Pleasanton so I guess I slowly got drawn to it.

Q: Had any nasty skate injuries?

A: A couple of badly rolled ankles and sprained wrists, but nothing serious. Skateboarding isn’t always nice and hurts my feelings every once and a while.

Q: Who's your fav. pro skater?

A: I don't really have a favorite skater. My favorite skater is my friend Mike V.

Q: What do you like to jam to?

A: I like hip-hop and rock and soul and funk and...anything besides country. Favorite artist? Maybe Biggie.

Q: How'd you get into film making?

A: I just got my own camera back in the fall so I have only been shooting my own skate footage for a little while. I have a lot of footage sitting around that I want to edit together, but I guess I haven't gotten around to it. I’ve been big on film since I was a kid but never really thought of it as a potential career path in high school so I came to Cal Poly instead of going to film school. After two years of Biomed Engineering, really shitty internships, and spending more time watching movies than doing homework, I realized that work is going to feel a lot like…work, if I am not doing something I love. So I decided to switch majors to film. Next fall I’m transferring to SF state, which I am really excited about. Go see my movies when I make it big!
